Pharisaism became Talmudism, Talmudism became Medieval Rabbinism, and Medieval Rabbinism became Modern Rabbinism. But throughout these changes in name...the spirit of the ancient Pharisees survives, unaltered...

The Jewish religion as it is today traces its descent, without a break, through all the centuries, from the Pharisees. Their leading ideas and methos found expression in a literature of enormous extent, of which a very great deal is still in existence. The Talmud is the largest and most important single piece of that literature...and the study of it is essential for any real understanding of Pharisaism.

The religion of the scribes and the Pharisees was Judaism, which is simply a recent name for Pharisaism, and no matter what you call it, it is diametrically opposed to the teaching of the prophets, the apostles, and Christ. In other words, it is diametrically opposed to Christianity. There can be no such thing as Judeo-Christianity.

This is not an uncommon impression and one finds it sometimes among Jews as well as Christians--that Judaism is the religion of the Hebrew Bible. It is of course a fallacious impression. Judaism is not the religion of the Bible.

The interpretation that Judaism is a religion of law and Christianity is a religion of love is a long-standing interpretation, but that is a misconception of Judaism.
