I'd call it family of the year. Everyone contributes.

I told them when they were doing it, I can take care of my family. But they insisted. I realized, when I talked to other people about it, they said, that's all you can do is say thank you. You can't have no pride with something like this.

The family that prays together, stays together.

We also send cards to acknowledge illnesses, births and deaths in the family. One officer who was out on leave for a while told me how much it meant to him that he got a card from us and that we were thinking of him during that time.

It's still an investigation so we can identify him, give it some closure and inform possible family members so he can receive a proper burial.

The joke in our family is that we can cry reading the phone book.
