It's fantasy, it's television, it's not for real. But it can put you back in the moment. I did have some moments where I had to turn around and walk away.

I wanted to write about humanity, inhumanity and the cost of warfare.... And what we wanted to do on the show is tell that story of humanity, where you can't tell where one begins and another ends.

Had you come in here with only an action series, I would have passed. But when you said the wives, the sweethearts, that depth of humanity, that's when you had me.

I'm sick of doing stories that make me want to drink myself into a stupor, ... We want stories to reflect the daily life for people in Baghdad – unfortunately, it’s a terrible existence.
