As the biologist, the best management would be conservative, permit-only hunting. That's not the way the public wants it. They want to maintain a general season.

If we are to reach an agreement, management has to stop overreaching.

Dove hunters do not appear numerous in this area. Last year, I saw one party hunting doves. They were from Milwaukee and were setting up on a DNR property. It was a wetland restoration project with lots of exposed mud at the water's edge and dead trees nearby for doves to roost in. They set up near the water's edge waiting for doves to come drink ... and they were successful.

Management is conservative and has a slow-and-steady approach that will not let the core business suffer at the seduction of hyper-expansion.
