You would never appreciate happiness if you didn't suffer a little first.

Life is at its best when everything has fallen out of place, and you decide that you're going to fight to get them right, not when everything is going your way and everyone is praising you.

Often, moreover, it is...that aspect of our being that society finds eccentric, ridiculous, or disagreeable, that holds our sweet waters, our secret well of happiness, the key to our equanimity in malevolent climes.

And hard times are good in their own way, too. Because the only way you can achieve true happiness is if you experience true sadness as well. It's all about light and shade. Balance.

Sorrow is an opportunity to appreciate happiness.

Woe is me, she cries out, a time of tribulation hangs over head like a dark cloud...yet through internal contradictions, she is grateful.
