You will work harder, you will never sacrifice more, but you will never be more fulfilled in what you accomplish.

The Vietnam and Korean memorials make us feel the human effort, sacrifice and loss, ... Instead here, we will encounter acres of stark granite, water and an eternal flame.

The tax base will shift more to where they have their residences, instead of where they work. That's where they will pay their property taxes, buy their groceries, buy their cars.

We humans do, when the cause is sufficient, spend our lives. We throw ourselves onto the grenade to save our buddies in the foxhole. We rise out of the trenches and charge the entreched enemy and die like maggots under a blowtorch. We strap bombs on our bodies and blow ourselves up in the midst of our enemies. We are, when the cause is sufficient, insane.

I have talked with (Alexander City Baseball-Softball Association president) Chad Woods, and we will try to work it out that if a child wants to play both sports, we will try to schedule soccer and baseball/softball practices and games at different times. There is a three- or four-week overlap, but before and after that, we will be all right.
