You don't put the carbon monoxide [detector] way up high, and you don't want to put it right in a heavy airflow either -- say, near a hot water heater or furnace.

It's a rare thing to happen -- but ... if you want to protect, you step forward and do it.

There's nothing to make you aware of it until it's really too late.
