Witnesses said they saw them just jumping up and down on his leg.

I thought it was just a fight, but when (Nordstrom and Hill) kept jumping up and down on his leg after he was down, I had to charge them with assault.

The witnesses saw the assault, and the victim had some marks on her consistent with what they saw. This is a fairly clear-cut case of misdemeanor assault.
