With all this other (proposed) development of schools and theatres, they have still kept the strip and its identity. Quite often, the Gasoline Alley themes get lost as the community develops.

...colleges being nothing but grooming schools for the middleclass non-identity which usually finds its perfect expression on the outskirts of the campus in rows of well-to-do houses with lawns and television sets is each living room with everybody looking at the same thing and thinking the same thing at the same time while the Japhies of the world go prowling in the wilderness...

We have to build these schools, so our choice is either to build it at that site ... or to displace thousands of people to find enough land to do it.

We usually speak at either liberal or moderate schools. Only once have we spoken at a conservative school, and this particular one was very conservative. John was anxious for how he would be received and I was glad to see that he was treated with great respect. I, however, spoke at the University of Wisconsin, Madison recently and was hissed at - hissed at, like vaudeville! The situation also required a police escort to my car. That event however, was without John. If he had been there, the reaction would have been much better, I am sure.

The girls were outstanding. It is now a fantastic opportunity for the girls and the schools to play at the Millennium Stadium and they're all really excited about it.
