When we lost the Blue Angel (marathon), we lost a marquee event. I think we all agreed that we needed to get together and do something (to have another marathon). We couldn't let it go away.

When you see your numbers go up like that, it's a pretty good indication you're doing things right.

I'll be sad if (the runners) don't get to watch that sunrise as they go down Scenic Highway in those first few miles. Some of the best parts of the course are in the beginning. There's nothing like seeing that sunrise as you run along Scenic.

This is the greatest marathon I've ever seen.

This is not the D.C. Marathon,

Number one is a tough position to be in. It's tough for coaches to remember, but this is a marathon, not a sprint. When you're competitive ... it's not an easy way to look at things.
