What I wanted them to know is that what was going on in California in 1968 was happening here in Texas, too, at the same time. What a film like this does, is tell our youth what their parents did to make things better for them.

It's not so much if the Democrats do things, it's if the Republicans don't do things in terms of governing and then (Republican U.S. Rep. Tom) DeLay remains in the news in a negative way.

The key now will be who gets their support. Both (Coronado and Vasquez) will be coveted, and the two candidates should be calling today to try to get their support. It has happened in the past, and it usually helps determine a winner.

The Republicans now are where the Democrats were 30 years ago: It's just almost impossible to think they would lose a statewide election.

People still want to know what their message is.

The party historically has been pretty working-class, and that's definitely the case here.
