What I liked about it was that it talked about girls together in their own little world, which was Utopian, but at the same time somewhat disturbing.

There's no final explanation, just a lot of possibilities. Visually, it has a nostalgic aspect which makes it look like a classic costume drama, but the fact that everything is left unresolved still seems very modern.
