We've been waiting for the bridge to be built over County Line Road.

You're out on the front line, and you're waiting for information. Minutes seem like hours. So, an hour must feel like a day.

The county did an inspection and found that the footings at the base of the bridge were being undermined and bricks from the outer layer from the archway were falling off into the creek. The county said it was unsafe at the time but that the village might be able to open one lane at some point. Right now, the county is having an engineer look at that.

We've probably gotten 40 percent of all of the road money in Eastern Kentucky since the 1970s, which is significant, but it isn't everything. There are a lot of governors and other politicians who wouldn't give Eastern Kentucky the time of day if it weren't for their wanting dad's support.

We want to urge our legislatures, commissioners and other county representatives to stop ignoring recommendations, many of which if followed would reduce current jail populations making the costly expansion unnecessary.

The Flagler bridge was built in 1938. Bridges then were built for a 50-year life. We certainly got a lot out of it.
