We witnessed the very worst in reaction to what had been a joyful occasion, ... The behavior was criminal and unacceptable. And unfortunately, most of those responsible appeared to be students.

The issue was the coach had entered into a clear violation of NCAA bylaws, it was a considered to be a blatant violation, and an egregious violation, and one that had no remedy.

It was a tough decision, but it's final. I've already begun packing my bags and putting together my alien-monster suit. I'm finally getting a chance to follow my dreams.

As a member of the NCAA, fully supporting its values, Ohio State works diligently to follow that organization's highest standards and adheres strictly to NCAA bylaws. In this matter we have acted forthrightly in compliance with NCAA rules and in the best interests of the athletics program and the university.

I will personally apologize for the poor treatment you received. We have been working very hard to change a culture from one that is disrespectful to one that is welcoming. Obviously, there is still much work to do.
