We started by talking about some of the local public-art projects that have taken place recently. Then we talked about the hand project, about the artist and his work.

I was hoping they would get a sense of what it's like to create their own show. I also wanted them to think about how we're all connected -- that they're individuals, but they're connected to a larger community. I think they succeeded in doing both.

They were aware that different environments gave it a different feeling.

We're certainly talking to him. He's interested. The projects have some relationship, and the timing is probably such that you could easily develop both from a strategic standpoint.

We try to keep the arts going, because it seems (art projects) are the first to go.

Jenny and I have been talking for years about what makes projects fail, and how to change the way we build software so that our projects succeed. When we were working together, we'd spend hours trying to figure out the root causes of our problems. And then, after we moved on to different organizations, we saw the same exact problems over and over again! We talked to a lot of people, and read a lot about project management techniques and practices. We expected to just fix our own problems, but discovered that everyone seems to suffer from the same ones. Something had to be done about this, and that was the inspiration for the book.
