We have to have it [the sewer system] built before they hook up. We have to have that capacity on line and ready to go. We have to stay ahead of the curve.

Our whole goal is to provide a safe haven for them. These kids have been exposed to things which have been damaging. They lose a whole history, they lose themselves and don't have an identity. For many of them, it's been a cycle of abuse.

We went to bed last night expecting some possible rain and woke up this morning to learn that Katrina was 75 miles [120 kilometers] north of Marathon [Florida]. A lot of the live-aboards [people living on houseboats] in Boot Key Harbor were surprised to find their boats in new spots.

What we've always said is that every child here is going to be treated with unconditional positive regard because they deserve it as every child does. It's all about making healthy, caring attachments for these boys. They give it to the horses and the horses give it back. It's about learning to develop a relationship, something many of them have never done before.

Reclamation is our new thing that we are trying to encourage more and more so we can put a second use to all the water we produce. It is a way to preserve the precious drinking water we have and use it for needs like human consumption.

The Victor Valley is growing faster then the Las Vegas area right now. It is the new homes that are paying for all this growth; it is not the existing users.
