We have that mind-set of where we know what we need to do to be better than we were last year and to [put ourselves] in a better situation.

It's something you can't get out of your mind. What if we'd done this? What if that happened? But at some point, you've got to move on. We could be (ticked) off the rest of our lives.

You would always see so-and-so is 57 or 32, ... and immediately you'd create in your mind what a 57- or 32-year-old looks like. And so from the time I was about 35, I didn't want any mention of that number. I just hated it.

I think that Giuliani and Bratton deserve a lot of credit for changing the mind-set in the city that crime is an insoluble problem. I like the idea how he used technology to help us level the playing field with criminals, ... He picked good people and held them accountable.
