We have cooperated with the FTC for the past several months, we did earlier this week and we continue to have discussions and meetings with them in the spirit of cooperation.

The [South] Korean FTC paid an unscheduled visit to our offices in Seoul on Tuesday of this week. It happened during normal business hours. It's part of a previously announced and ongoing inquiry into our business practices. We are continuing to cooperate and expect that at the end of the Day, they will conclude that our business practices are both fair and lawful.

[The second component is a voluntary separation program that offers several months' severance as an enticement to people who have been thinking of retiring or otherwise leaving -- standard stuff at most companies. These, along with normal attrition, should have helped Intel reduce its head count.] Unfortunately, ... normal turnover laws may not hold during a downturn in the economy.

We acknowledge that representatives from the Korean FTC (Free Trade Commission) did pay an unscheduled visit to our office in Seoul earlier this week during normal business hours.

We said [earlier] that it would be done primarily through attrition, some redeployment and possibly localized layoffs. This voluntary separation program that's under consideration is a tool to achieve that number. We haven't moved the number beyond 3,000,

We have been scrutinized many times in the past and we expect to be in the future. It comes with the territory.
