We formed because we were concerned with the initial applications to the Corps of Engineers. We're not trying to oppose the port, but we don't want them to disproportionately affect our neighborhood with negative impacts. There is no question, they have strong support here. And they have strong detractors, too.

The Corps (of Engineers) does not do docks.

The Corps of Engineers samplings haven't really found anything in any of those buildings until their last sample. The last go-round, they found one reading that was questionable. What the latest rounds show is it was probably a mistake.

For the corps to persuade people that it is part of the solution and not part of the problem, it will have to change its behavior, ... Continuing the practice of spreading funding across a wide range of projects in the hopes of growing the corps program will not be an acceptable answer. We have to return to a situation where the Corps of Engineers is respected for its professional engineering judgment.
