We're not going to negotiate some new treaty on climate change ... What this is about is seeing whether it will be possible in the future to bring people back into consensus together. Can we do that? I don't know, but it's important that we at least begin a process of dialogue that allows us to make progress on this.

The blunt truth about the politics of climate change is that no country will want to sacrifice its economy in order to meet this challenge, ... But all economies know that the only sensible, long-term way to develop is to do it on a sustainable basis.
