Unfortunately, discrimination is alive and well. After 41 years of addressing it, we get over 80,000 complaints annually and over a million phone calls.

We're responsible for eradicating discrimination but also for educating the public. Businesses not only need to make a profit, but they need to deal with regulations from the Labor Department, workers' compensation and a wide array of state laws.

We have the best economy in the world. Part of that is we believe in making sure we use human capital efficiently and not (wasting) talent through gender or racial discrimination.

I think that's really helped me. I've been able to bring a lot of credibility to my role. I've been there and seen things from a business perspective.

I find it very hard to believe that in 2006 we're finding incidents like this in the workplace.
