To be able to prevent oneself from acting in accordance to one's own whim and intellect especially in spiritual matters (swachchhand) is known as saiyam.

What is the measure of the fact that one has realized One's own state as the Self (nijswaroop)? It is in accordance to the saiyam parinaam (resultant state free of anger-pride-deceit-greed, attachment and abhorrene) that prevails for One.

Saiyam parinaam (A resultant state that is free of anger-pride-deceit-greed, attachment and abhorrence) can only arise whilst living in worldly life. Saiyam (a state free of anger-pride-deceit-greed, attachment and abhorrence) cannot arise without worldly life. When one comes into saiyam, there is safe-side of worldly life too!

Even the Lord has praised the saiyamdhari (One who possesses a state free of anger-pride-deceit-greed, attachment and abhorrence). A saiyamdhari is not afraid of death. The devotional viewing (darshan) of a saiyamdhari needs to be done.

When is 'our' worldly interaction considered good? It is from the moment 'we' have become saiyamit (in control of one's mind-body and speech). If there is no saiyam (a state free of anger-pride-deceit-greed, attachment and abhorrence), then worldly interaction cannot be considered as [true] worldly interactions, can they? Even the slightest of asaiyam (lack of control over anger-pride-deceit-greed) means worldly interactions cannot be considered complete.

From which moment is it considered saiyam (a state free of anger-pride-deceit-greed, attachment and abhorrence)? What is the beginning of saiyam? From the moment artadhyan (adverse internal state of being that results in hurting the self) and raudradhyan (an adverse internal state of being that hurts others) stop. Who is considered as asaiyami (one who is under the control of anger-pride-deceit-greed)? The one who is under the control of things that do not belong to him. As long as artadhyan and raudradhyan do not stop, it is considered as yamniyam (one who is either in a state of coming into self restraint or upholding self restraint).
