When you forgive someone, you agree to bury the hatchet, handle and all. When you bury the hatchet with the handle sticking up, that says that you are ready to yank the hatchet out of the ground and use it whenever the opportunity arises again. If you bury the hatchet like that, it's as if you've never forgiven them to begin with.
