Tiffany is a pleasant surprise. She is our vocal leader, keeps us pumped up and is hitting the ball a lot better.

Lauren's job is to go after every ball and put herself in a position to make passes. She has to have the mentality that every ball is hers. She is getting better at that and is a lot more focused now.

I knew it would be rough in the beginning because we had so many sophomores in key roles, but we are starting to come along. We've been playing better with a 5-1 because now one person is responsible for setting and there is less confusion.

We didn't play well. They overpowered us and put us on the defensive. They're taller than the teams we've played. They had quick hits in the middle and hit the ball down, and we didn't get our hands on the ball in time.

In summer 1961, Rose-Marie Egger became my wife, and her stabilizing influence has kept me on an even keel ever since. Our honeymoon trip led us to the United States where I spent two post-doc years working on thermal conductivity of type-II superconductors and metals in the group of Professor Bernie Serin at Rutgers University in New Jersey.

In all the years with IBM Research, I have especially appreciated the freedom to pursue the activities I found interesting and greatly enjoyed the stimulus, collegial cooperation, frankness, and intellectual generosity of two scientific communities, namely in superconductivity and critical phenomena.
