Leaders on both sides of the Atlantic need to build upon areas where Americans and Europeans do agree, like democracy promotion, to pave the way forward for transatlantic relations.

The world is wearied of statesmen whom democracy has degraded into politicians

To win the cause we all believe in, the spread of true democracy all over the world, we need to win by example, not just with speeches but by example; not just with military might but by gaining the respect of the world.

It's important for our nation that our military and our society be close together. That's important for democracy. And it's important for recruiting. It's important for retention. It's important for building support for our engagements overseas.

The purpose of the scholarship is to bridge the (culture) gap. I know he will bring our culture to Australia, and some of their culture back to us. When we interviewed him, Ted had that international flair (that the Rotary Club looks for). I have watched him grow from a shy man into a leader and confident young man.
