This is a really complicated bill and it looks like there are a lot of positive things in it that would improve access to health care. I really respect the Legislature for coming up with a comprehensive plan to provide access to insurance for everyone.

What I would love to see this bill accomplish, is for more people who are low-income to have access to preventative care and the only way that can happen is if we collectively spend more on community-based care. The ultimate goal is to make more people healthy, because you want to have people not get so sick that they need more expensive care.

It's the unattended consequences that I'm most worried about. The problem with personal responsibility is that it doesn't recognize economic barriers that may deter people from getting the kind of health care they need.

Women are getting more physical activity, they're eating better, and the really positive benefit they're seeing is that they're not only doing this for themselves but our research studies showed they are taking action for family members, so there really seems to be a domino affect of all this effort to educate women.
