They all did really well. It's the first time any South swimmers have been on the podium to receive awards so that's very exciting for us.

For a long time we were regarded as the Susan Lucci of the Video Music Awards, ... because we could just never, we were nominated, like, 14 times or something before we ever got one.

I think the only time individual awards really impress upon you as a kid is when you get to share them with your teammates. What you share with your teammates is the big award, the conference championship. So if you get an individual award and the team gets nothing, you feel kind of like half-empty.

The awards started at a time when there was no form of recognition for reggae in the world.

Ideally our goal is to increase the number of scholarships offered while also increasing the dollar amount of the awards.

You have to win the district and regional Coach of the Year awards to get to here. It's nice to be recognized by the coaches you work with all year, but I'm where I'm at right now because of the strong support group I have in this program. One person doesn't do what we're doing, it takes a lot of dedicated people.
