There's four big ticket items we have no control over - special education, healthcare, pensions and construction costs - and these are the things impacting our budget the most.

Do I agree with everything the governor does? No. But break down the things he has accomplished with education, healthcare and economic growth, and in a politically competitive state that has had wide Republican influence during his terms, and no one could argue that he's been out cutting ribbons.

Large retailers and national computer manufacturers will typically look to point fingers at problems that are outside their control. Smart consumers will recognize that a technology consultant, the same kind that helps small businesses in the area, has a lot more skin in the game with building 'relationship equity' than a large national retailer or computer manufacturer.

With the legislation in play now, we would have to make cuts ranging from one to two million dollars - I can't begin to tell you what that would do to this district.

No school board member in this state likes raising taxes, but if we're not properly funded by the state or the federal government, and the costs are increasing, we don't have a choice.
