Death is a stage where at the end you break up with yourself.

No emperor/king succeeded in convincing death that he is immortal, no one.

When it seems as if life is lashing you like a mean overlord, you may have wronged maybe a brother, a parent, or maybe other souls, or in a moment of pain you gave up all hope. It is not like an overlord that it beats you in the latter case, nor like a parent, but like an animal that you did not know how to rein till the end.
