There is a lot of interest in this case, but we took the time to give it an evaluation, ... Regardless of public attention, we forward it for fair review. To say we expedited it would be an overstatement.

The members of the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles are fully aware of the responsibility we have in rendering our votes as part of the executive clemency review process. I can say, unequivocally, that the board's decision not to recommend clemency was reached after a complete and unbiased review of the petition and evidence submitted.

It is probably not going to happen, ... At this point, I have had no indication from the members that we need to have a formal hearing to adequately explore this matter.

I believe that these concerns warrant a board hearing to consider all of the evidence in the case before the board makes a recommendation to the governor,

The only instructions I've ever gotten from the governor's office is to let them know when a decision is made,

the facts do lend support to the conviction and the findings of the jury, but there's still information that I want to review and be sure that I have in fact taken all that into consideration.
