The year after the Olympics is always an interesting year. The Australians are getting better and better. . . . Each team is pushing each other to get better. It's good for the sport of swimming and it's good for both teams.

I was tempted my junior year to go out of college and forgo my eligibility. I had broken several world records. I did have a lot of people telling me that I should go pro.

There's an adage that a lot of coaches have, that I completely disagree with, is if you make the Olympic team too early you become complacent.

Steve Smith had a great year, no question. Even more so when you think that every team has it on their checklist to do something about Steve Smith. The other day we gave up a lot of passing yardage to some outstanding receivers. But our No. 1 thing will still be to stop the run. That's where we start.

It should be an interesting morning for me.

I remember, I think it was my first meet, I entered the 25 fly. I couldn't even get my arms out of the water, and I got DQ. I don't know what evil official would DQ a 6-year-old, but it was a little discouraging.
