The photo ID bill is clearly in violation of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 and will effectively silence thousands of Georgia's voters of all races and ages.

If there's not a major push for the renewal of the Voting Rights Act, many of the advances we've seen in the past two decades will be severely undermined.

Congress must reauthorize all of the expiring sections of the Voting Rights Act. This renewal must happen without changes that would weaken the law's original intent, to ensure that minorities have equal and unhindered access to the ballot box. Reauthorization of the act is a truly bipartisan effort. People of all political stripes agree that every American should have their right to vote guaranteed.

No one questions the validity, the urgency, the essentiality of the Voting Rights Act.

It means our National Voting Rights Trail will not be desecrated by a nasty garbage dump.
