The idea that shipping tens of thousands of tons of high-level nuclear waste to Utah for a pit stop before transporting it further to a hypothetical permanent repository will improve the safety and security of the waste is ludicrous.

Transporting high-level radioactive waste to Utah is as dangerous as it would be transporting it to Nevada, ... Thousands of tons of deadly nuclear material will pass homes, schools, businesses and churches in communities all across the country, and there is simply no way to safely do this.

It is thoroughly irresponsible to promote the use of nuclear power when there is still no technically feasible means of assuring that long-lived radioactive wastes can be isolated from the environment. Further, this will do nothing to solve the current predicament we have with rising electricity costs.

By shipping nuclear waste on trucks and trains and barges, we may very well be creating hundreds, even thousands, of rolling dirty bombs. What sense does that make?

We applaud the farmer who did the right thing by turning over the sick cow in question to a veterinarian for testing.

We cannot afford to be discouraged from challenging the corporate control of our food system, our genetic commons, our shared resources, or our democracy. The history of social change in our nation shows that the political system can be reformed, even if the road is long and zigzag.
