The holidays evoke strong emotions, and . . . it's all about the senses. You touch gift wrap, smell the candles and cookies, hear the sounds of bells.

If someone feels they need to come back for a second session, we can have them do that. If there are other problems, such as not sleeping or not eating, we can refer them for mental health treatment in the community.

We give people a safe place to grieve.

I wish I could put someone in my place for an hour . . . and let them see the emotions I deal with. It's just like reliving everything all over again.

If facts are the seeds that later produce knowledge and wisdom, then the emotions and the impressions of the senses are the fertile soil in which the seeds must grow.
