The great menace to the life of an industry is industrial self-complacency.

This was before voice mail, recorded phone messages you can't escape. Life was easier then. You just didn't pick up the phone.

It isn't the subjects we write about but the seriousness and subtlety of our expression that determines the worth of or effort.

I compose most of my tweets with care, as if they were aphorisms - they are not usually dashed-off. Sometimes I'm surprised by the high, poetic quality of Twitter - it lends itself to a surreal sort of self-expression.

All that matters in life is forging deep ties of love and family and friends. Writing and reading come later.
