The first gig we ever played was in Halifax, Nova Scotia, where I'm from,

I see this as an attack on rural Nova Scotia.

Our first gig was a battle of the bands. We did 45 minutes of comedy and never played a note - and we won!

In this part of Canada, it was assumed that the passengers would provide each other with entertainment.

I didn't get hugely famous really quick. It was a slow, gradual process, so I was able to sort of grow into myself and figure out who I was and what I wanted without the glaring spotlight on me telling me who I was.

I don't like bad feelings gnawing away at me.
