The fact that [Saenz] is facing an offspeed guy and dealing with his oblique strain, you don't want him out there lunging after a changeup and ripping that oblique.

He's part of that organizational depth chart and you like to see a younger guy like that go out and perform well against major-league competition. His outing was very encouraging and it was obvious he was more comfortable this time.

I'm very in tune with that. When a guy gets on a roll and stays on a roll for a little while, you ride that out.

He may not have seen live pitching, but he's the type of guy who wouldn't take long to resurrect his hand-eye coordination. I don't think he hit 700-and-something home runs by accident. I think you would have to be aware of him.

We talked an awful lot in Spring Training about unselfishness and the fact that we're interested, as members of this ball club, to do whatever it is that's necessary to win a Major League baseball game. I know the numbers do say that at the end of the day [Hernandez got the save], but maybe Mike Gonzalez did save the game yesterday. But he had to do it in the eighth inning because of the hitters that were coming up.

The avian flu may be that next novel strain and it may not be, we just don't know yet. The threat of a pandemic isn't a new one. It's just ratcheted up right now because they're finding this new strain in a few more places.
