The dead grass and pine needles from last year serve as fuel for the fire. With the wind blowing the way it is, an ember from a small fire can blow dozens of feet and spark a larger fire.

A lot of people know the fire school is in town, but not many have been to it. This gives us the opportunity to show people what we do. It's a place where we are doing a lot for the community, the state and country.

There it stands ablaze, like a slab of fire, with its parade of white flagstaffs gleaming in the street light, and the humped black limousines patient at the door.

It appears that somebody was burning trash somewhere, a big brush pile, and the fire got away.

The fire appeared to have started in an old shed behind our neighbor's house.
