The agencies funded by United Way improve the quality of life for everyone in our community. It feels great to be able to help some of our neighbors, friends and co-workers.

Because we are federally funded (by Community Development Block Grant funds), we're open to nonresidents. The day after Eastpointe's center closed, we got a few Eastpointe seniors here. They were totally surprised -- a lot of them showed up to their senior center one day and found it padlocked.

Anytime you've got activities going on in your community that are going to result in quality-of-life offerings, it can't be anything but an added benefit.

They are providing significant impact to the quality of life to not just this community but really the state. They embody what we're trying to sell Iowa as: creative, cool, high-tech.

What we want is to improve the quality of life for everybody. We want to improve the standard of living. And the way we do that is by providing good-paying jobs, secure jobs, so that we know the companies are going to prosper and do well here and help expand our economy.

Motorola has led the mobile phone industry in turning our vision of low- cost, yet quality, handsets for the developing world into a reality. In so doing, Motorola has played a major role in transforming the mobile phone from a luxury item for the few into an affordable tool for the many.
