The cause remains under investigation.

Churches such as Pilgrim Baptist [one of Chicago's most historic black churches, which recently burned in an accident] have largely lost the vibrant community of middle-class blacks who built them up and now are struggling to attract a younger generation. While we value the architecture, it should not be at the expense of ministry, and oftentimes that's the dilemma that we're faced with.

This seriously hampers the investigation. Let's face it. We're now reduced on this accident to having only radar data and whatever information we can glean from that (and) eyewitness statements.

We are working very closely with the District of Oregon. The investigation remains active and ongoing. We look forward to the day when those responsible for the UW fire are brought to justice.

Initial investigation shows the fire accident was due to malpractice of an electrician, who has been detained by police.
