Some jobs in manufacturing might well disappear as a result of weakness in housing, but this may be offset by jobs brought home or not lost to foreign competition.

Currently we have construction job levels reaching toward the ceiling but manufacturing jobs are virtually at the floor. With hardly any room to fall further, it doesn't seem likely that problems in housing and in construction will spread to manufacturing this time.

Manufacturing is expanding, but not as broadly as in November. There was weakness in new orders and employment.

[Friday's] data clearly indicate that U.S. manufacturing may not be quite at a bottom. The weakness is led by computers and electronic equipment, but other categories are weak also.

Over the last five years, Wisconsinites have lost nearly 80,000 manufacturing jobs, largely because of unfair trade agreements and questionable administration policies.

This bill is strongly and powerfully pro-manufacturing. It will stimulate manufacturing jobs in a sector that's been battered by the economic slowdown.
