She was my first Miss Oshkosh and we were friends from the start. I always say these young women are like my daughters and I hope I made an impression upon them.

I print out a schedule of her appearances for the month and I put a little note on it to have a good day and to keep a smile.

Gordy loves parades. I always call her the parade lady.

It is, I think, harder for women. I haven't quite figured it out, and all of my women friends haven't figured it out -how the hell do you do this? How do you work and have families?

Women who take classes together become friends, meet on the outside, go to quilt shows together.

Thus far, women have been the mere echoes of men. Our laws and constitutions, our creeds and codes, and the customs of social life are all of masculine origin. The true woman is as yet a dream of the future.
