She puts a lot of time into what she does. She's usually one of the last athletes to leave practice. She has an inner drive to be the best, and that's just something I can't coach.

The best part about it is we're very young. To be so young and to be able to step up during a competition like this I think is a true sign of confidence and determination.

Due to short prep time - some athletes had two days of practice thanks to successful basketball seasons - most of the coaches treated this as a scrimmage meet, with fewer entries than usual and basically getting all the new athletes familiar with a meet situation. The conference teams did this; St. Stephens didn't.

When they switched it, a lot of people got angry about it. Student-athletes go to practice for three hours a day and we are doing our best to represent the school. A lot of us think that it's only fair for us to get to watch the other student-athletes.

I firmly believe that you can do things in a timely and secure manner at the same time.
