Robbie opened every door. He had the dogged determination of a sheriff from a '40s movie tracking down a fugitive.

The line was certainly firmly drawn between TV and features at one point, but it has really been blurred. Every writer I know now is moving back and forth between both worlds.

Long and involved is the only way I know how to write. I'm that kid with the blue book in the college exam hall, and they say time is up and I keep writing. I think it's human nature, though, that the more you are around something, the more it loses its luster for you and you seek to change it. Typically, you start off trying to tell the work what it's supposed to do, but as you keep going, it starts telling you what to do.

It was all determination. As the old saying goes, ?Where there?s a will, there?s a way,? and as you saw, we had the will, literally.

It does not disagree with my determination, it does not say that the boy cannot be reunited with his father in this country, and in fact the court said we need not decide where or in whose custody the plaintiff should remain while this appeal is pending.
