Right now, we have a system with no accountability. A judge can order someone to treatment, and they can do whatever they want. To have a system where so few people show up is shocking.

When you're saddled with the fact that it's not low-level offenders and there's no accountability, it's doomed for failure.

The board's feeling is that three-strikes is a great law if used appropriately, and this measure to change it is not necessary.

The initiative is a severe limitation of the number of crimes that can be considered for a life sentence. It involves the release of thousands of felons that juries, judges and prosecutors ... have decided ... should serve their sentences. We would hope that the people would pay attention to our vote.

Treatment works, if you can get it, and if states get it right. Unfortunately, too many states are willing to risk or tolerate premature deaths.

I've been out for a few weeks with shoulder injury but I'm having constant treatment to try to get right.
