People said for years you need a scandal to get campaign finance reform. This whole election has been a scandal.

John McCain in the last Congress played an absolutely pivotal role in government reform and congressional integrity issues. Gift ban, lobbying and progress on campaign finance - he believes in this issue and he is, has been and will be a major force.

Even small pieces of campaign finance reform are difficult. There's a lot of different interests in Springfield, and there's not a huge appetite from any corner for real campaign finance reform. We certainly saw that when the bill was introduced last session.

McCain wants to make the GOP move in the direction of his issues, particularly campaign finance reform. There are two issues he'll squabble with Republican leadership on. First is his bitterness toward Bush for the attack ads from South Carolina on. Second, he can make the issue that he drew new voters into the party, and that the party will have to incorporate his platform if it wants to keep those voters.

The biggest dilemma for people coming in is you need experience of the finance sector. To earn big money, you need a sound understanding of finance.
