Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.

There are moral religious people and moral secular people, immoral religious people and immoral secular people.

We don't expect a religious government. They assured people they will not do that.

The astonishing thing is that people can become religious without being converted. That is, they join churches and start reading the Bible and doing religious things with no change in the foundation of their happiness: It is still themselves. They are the ground of their joy.

Our Constitution recognises no other power than that of persuasion, for enforcing religious observances.

Religious people are happier.
