One of the things about Ike that makes him so indisputably a hero is that he doesn't leave his own contradictions to the effete disputations of armchair scholars. He grapples with them himself, in his own lifetime.

There would be hope that progress can be made, when the assemblage of character, ethics, integrity, and ability to solve issues recovers to be the focal point in contesting and evaluating office-seekers and officeholders. Unfortunately, this is not their primary engrossment. They have to frame every one with a pre-defined political classification so that the public could conveniently settle in with either a love or a hate sentiment.

Right is right, and wrong is wrong, and a body ain’t got no business doing wrong when he ain’t ignorant and knows better.

Don't worry so much about your self-esteem. Worry more about your character. Integrity is its own reward.

We should be authentic: the ‘real deal’. Neither a clone nor mimic be.

The self can watch itself becoming lazy, or non-watchful; this is an asset that can make both for humor and profound well-being.
