Most of the leading search sites excel in responsiveness with no notable slow downs during peak usage periods. At these speeds consumers will not note a significant difference between any of the leading sites.

The online travel and lodging industry clearly needs to improve its reliability. Simply put, when your site is unavailable to consumers you lose business. Marriott sets the standard for site reliability and responsiveness in the lodging industry. It is very rare for one site to top our rankings in both these areas, so clearly Marriott is the site to model after from a technical standpoint.

Luxury Auto sites seemed to have mastered the delivery of complex Web pages with a strong visual component to broadband users. However, it is quite surprising that a number of leading luxury automakers are having significant site downtime. Luxury auto buyers become easily frustrated with such poor site performance, and can quickly turn to a competitor site to continue their browsing and purchase consideration process.

In both the U.S. and in China the search engine industries are setting the pace for Internet reliability and responsiveness. In fact, the Chinese search engine market really sets the global technical standard, edging out even the U.S. market in terms of site responsiveness.

In general, the online credit card industry performs close to the same reliability and responsiveness found across other online financial services industries. However, the sites performing below the industry performance standard are performing quite out of range, and are among the poorest performing sites not only in the credit card industry, but in the financial services industry as a whole. Of course, this can undermine the ability of these sites to acquire new customers.
