Maybe the most elusive of all is a sense of community. People have to feel they can contribute and make a difference.

It's not a ceremonial or figurehead job as it is in cities that have a city manager. The mayor is responsible for the executive branch of government. So it's probably more important than it is in other cities in Montana.

We're in the midst of this continental migration into the mountains that's been going on for a decade and a half and shows no signs of letting up. As the most attractive and alluring spots or valleys get filled up, then the migration begins to focus on new places. We see that happening all over the West.

It's a pleasure to contribute to the entrepreneurial community at USC.

You feel like you can contribute and be a part. But it's better now than later on in the season.

I'm more of a shifty, elusive back. But I do feel like I can run hard when I need to.
